Impreion of “pride and prejudice”

I read “pride and prejudice” for the first time when I was

13.But the book I read is in Chinese, I still learn a lot from the progenitor.“pride and prejudice”is the British writer Jane Austen’s masterpiece The story is an impreive and meaningful one,and it is a famous and claic literature.I am deeply impreed by the independent Elizabeth and the honest Darcy. At the same time, the twist also attract my attention. That is the story of the eighteenth century mainly in the UK four-door marriage. At first glance the story of actre Elizabeth, Darcy is not pleasing.Darcy’s pride did not leave a good impreion on Elizabeth. They once be angry with each other. But after the test of many things, the two eventually eliminate the misunderstanding and came together.Darcy, the hero is not a popular man, but cold with relationships, for him, pride may be justified. He finally broke through the identification fetter, and be honest feelings for

Elizabeth. As to Elizabeth, she has been living under her own prejudices, and ignore the truth that Darcy do really a honest man.Fortunately, they finally have a good ending

Pride and Prejudice, is very common weaknees.Everyone is actually very easy to be driven by their own subjective impreion, which is not easy for other people under the correct notes, thus resulting in mutual misunderstanding.Certainly, the first impreion given by others can affect many things, but it could not change the whole thing,.There must be more in-depth understanding in order to have a more objective point of argument. In short, the perfect human nature have the ability ti change all the ugly things. What we have to do is to keep our good hearts, to meet everything

characters

Mr.Bennet—An English gentleman with an estate in Hertfordshire.Mrs.Bennet—The querulous wife of Mr.Bennet.Her main concern in life is seeing her daughters married well.Jane Bennet—The eldest of the Bennets' five daughters and the one considered the most beautiful.Elizabeth Bennet—The 20-year-old second sister, and the protagonist of the story.Charlotte Lucas—Elizabeth's close friend and daughter of a neighbouring landowner.Darcy—Mr.Bingley's close friend, an intelligent, wealthy and reserved man, who often appears haughty or proud to strangers.William Collins—A clergyman and cousin of Mr.Bennet.Mr.Collins, as the closest male relative, stands to inherit the Bennet estate.Summary

Pride and Prejudice is a humorous story of love and life among

English gentility during the Georgian era.It is universally acknowledged that the eternal theme of this novels is the choice people make for marriage partners.Mrs.Bonnet had no other wish if her five daughters could get married as soon as poible with someone wealthy. At a dancing ball, it is obvious that Mr.Bingley could not help falling in love at the first sight with Mi Jane because of her stunning beauty.Elizabeth Bennet is at first determined to dislike Mr.Darcy, who is handsome and eligible. This misjudgment only matched in folly by Darcy's arrogant pride.Mr.Darcy offered the money and did everything departing from his will just because he loved Elizabeth so much. This plot is the c limax of the novel as the prejudice of Elizabeth to Mr.Darcy was exposed and removed since then. And the combination of the two young couples, Jane and Bingley, Elizabeth and Darcy came at last.Reporting

Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectly reflected the relation between money

and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters. The characters have their own personalities.Mrs.Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters.Mr.Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr.Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior.Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different.Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others.Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion.Mary likes reading claic books.Actually i think she is a nerd.Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia.Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century. The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. There, the author emphasize the importance of ideal marriage, meanwhile, to be opposed to love & marriage based on money or property and to be opposed to

people’s laugh love & marriage off.Elizabeth as the leading character in this novel, was born in the family of squireen’s, and is loved by Darcy.Darcy propose marriage to her in spite of difference in the poeion of property and social status, but is refused by Elizabeth for his pride , the novel demonstrate that if the pride of Darcy’s existed, there will be no love and also happy marriage between Elizabeth and him, it is really nice that Elizabeth witnees the changes of Darcy’s through series of behavior in the following days.viewing that he is no longer pride and then eliminating her prejudice to him, finally engaged with him and leading a happy marriage. In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in some people’s mind.A lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’s marriages.Education background, poeions, jobs remains the main reason that may influence one’s marriage.Marry for money is still a big problem in our society. We can’t help thinking: can money determine everything?

Book Reading

Jane Austen(1775-1817)

“Pride and Prejudice”Foreign Language Teaching and Research Pre(April 2010)

Information about the writer: An English writer, who first gave the novel its modern character through the treatment of everyday life.Although Austen was widely read in her lifetime, she published her works anonymously. The most urgent preoccupation of her bright, young heroines is courtship and finally marriage.Austen herself never married. Her best-known books include PRIDE AND PREJUDICE(1813)and EMMA(1816).Virginia Woolf called Austen "the most perfect artist among women."

Extract1.Elizabeth’s astonishment was beyond expreion. She stared, coloured, doubted, and was silent. This he considered sufficient encouragement;and the avowal of all that he felt, and had long felt for her, immediately followed. He spoke well;but there were feelings besides those of the heart to be detailed;and he was not more eloquent on the subject of tenderne than of pride. His sense of her inferiority—of its being a degradation—of the family obstacles which had always opposed to inclination, were dwelt on with a warmth which seemed due to the consequence he was wounding, but was very unlikely to recommend his suit.2.In spite of her deeply-rooted dislike, she could not be insensible to the compliment of such a man’s affection, and though her intentions did not vary for an instant, she was at first sorry for the pain he was to receive;till, roused to resentment by his subsequent language, she lost all compaion in anger. She tried, however, to compose herself to answer him with patience, when he should have done.My comments: Mrs.Bennet is a vain person, and she has five daughters, all of whom with obvious personality.Mrs.Bennet has no other wish but marring off her daughters with someone wealthy and has high social status, but she never gives a lot of care to her daughters’ improperly behavior.Mr.Bennent is an old gentleman who take good care of his family, but he would like to let his wife’s improper behavior go unchecked, and he prefer hiding himself into library to find a piece of peace.Their oldest daughter, Jane Bennet, has a good appearance, gentle despotism, and always be quiet.Second daughter, Elizabeth, a vivid, wisdom, pretty, independent girl.Third daughter, Mary Bennet, maybe she is not as beautiful as her sisters ,but she is delinquent in pursuing knowledge to make up the common of her appearance ,so she is also a pride girl.Forth girl, Catherine "Kitty" Bennet ,who has a impetuous character , is fond of dancing, her manner is always improper, but she was never aware of this point. The youngest daughter , Lydia Bennet , is also a vain person , interested in dancing and making fun with officers ,it seems that such thing is her own life’s aim.One day, Bingley, a single man of a large fortune came to live near their home.He was a gentle, honest, tolerant and rich young man.He fell in love with Jane in a dance and had an affinity for each other. But Bingley’s friend

Darcy was serious and not good at communicating with others, which left a proud impreion on others.Gradually, he fell in love with Elizabeth. However, the family of Bennet was not a decent family itself, which hindered their love from developing smoothly.Elizabeth had a prejudice against Darcy from the first. The problem between Elizabeth and Darcy was just a representative.Once one’s parentage, property, status and cultivation are related to upper cla, he will be proud and look down on poor, humble and vulgar people. In turn, people with low status and little property, out of the self-esteem, will defend the proud with prejudice, which turns out to be another pride.Elizabeth was a clever girl;she did not accept that kind of marriage, either. When Darcy, a rich man proposed to her, she rejected.Because she did not like Darcy.Darcy was proud.Elizabeth had prejudice with him.Obviously, the pride and prejudice;two bad guys obstructed Darcy and Elizabeth's marriage.Fortunately, Darcy and Elizabeth rediscovered

themselves.Gradually, Elizabeth fell in love with Darcy, too. Finally, they married.By the way, in the end, Jane married Bingley.Love is really a wonderful thing. On the way of seeking love, as long as we stick to our principle and don’t be afraid of misunderstanding, I believe one day happine will come true.

Marriages in Pride and Prejudice

The novel Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austen in 1813, tells the love story of four couples. The first one is Jane and Bingly.Although they fall in love with each other somehow influenced by wealth and beauty, their marriage is mainlybased on love. The second is about Elizabeth.Elizabeth has a prejudice against Mr.Darcy because he istoo proud to appreciate her.Even when he displays Darcy affair to her,she refuses him for he considers Bingly and her sister,Jane.Another is Elizabeth’s Friend Charlotte Lucas who is neither beautiful nor rich. She marries Mr.Colins for financial supprot. The last one is her sister Lydia Bennet ,who is laching in maturity, runs off with George Wickham.Through these characters, this novel mainly tells us the attitude towards love and marriage.Above all,Jane Austen held the view that one should marry based on love like Elizabeth and Darcy.A womanshould refuse to marry a man without love, however rich he is.However, her friend Charlotte Lucas fail to persist on it,resulting in an unhappy mariage. What’s more,a woman should be independent when she choose her husband. In the Chapter 20,Elizabeth refuses the proposal of Mr.Colins in spite ofhis wealth and her mother’ persistence.“She talked to Elizabeth again and again;coaxed and threatened her by turns and Elizabeth, sometimes with real earnestne.” “and Elizabeth, sometimes with real earnestne and sometimes with playful gaiety, replied to her attacks.Though her manner varied, however, her determination never did.’’And in our real life, one should choose his or her mates because of love rather than money or appearance. Moreover, maturity is important in one’s marriage.Lydia Bennet accepts George Wickham without consideration. And her indiscreetnot only lead to a distre to her family but also runis her marriage.“How Wickham and Lydia were to be supported in tolerable independence, she could not imagine. But how little of permanent happine could belong to a couple who were only brought together because their paions were stronger than their virtue, she could easily conjecture.”

Last but not least, this novel also shows that one coulple should recognize their own faults so that they can know each other better. At first Elizabeth just can not stand Mr.Darcy’s pride so she refused him.But later she realized that he is kind to help Williama and her sister and generous to forgive others. All in all,Pride and Prejudice is a novel tells the principles of marriage and love. And Elizabeth’s indeendence of persenality as well as her persistence of love is still meaningful inmodern society.

A book report on Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice, first published on 28 January 1813, is the most famous of Jane Austen's novels and one of the first "romantic comedies" in the history of the novel.Jane Austen, English novelist whose realism, biting social commentary and masterful use of free indirect speech, burlesque and irony have earned her a place as one of the most widely-read and best-loved writers in British literature. Its manuscript was first written between 1796 and 1797, initially called First Impreions, but was never published under that title. The title of the book is taken from a sentence in Fanny Burney's Cecilia;Austen was a reader and admirer of Burney's novels. The book opens its prelude with the sentence, “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in poeion of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighborhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surroundings families, that he is considered as the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters.Elizabeth was the core character of the story, who is the second daughter of Mr.Bennet.She is characterized as a sensible, intelligent, yet stubborn, young woman.Elizabeth initially holds that Mr.Darcy is such a proud man that she dislikes him because of it.Jane, sister of Elizabeth falls in love with Mr.Bingley but Mr.Bingley is persuaded to leave the town under the suggestion of Mr.Darcy.Mr.Darcy is a rich man that at first he thinks that Elizabeth is not handsome enough to tempt him. However, he has a crush on the girl later. The man makes a proposal to Elizabeth, unfortunately he was turned down because his attitude is supposed to be too proud and Elizabeth has a great prejudice against him. What’s more, Elizabeth is convinced by Mr.Wickam of Darcy’s selfishne and pride.Having been turned down by the girl, Mr.Darcy leaves her sadly, leaving a long letter to make some explanation: he admits that he persuaded Bingley to leave but it is

because he is unsatisfied with Mrs.Bennet.What Mr.Wickam has said is all a lie for that it is Wickam who uses up all the aets and attempts to temp her sister. After reading the letter, Elizabeth is regretful and changes her opinion against Darcy. The next summer, Elizabeth meets Mr.Darcy and finds the changes in Darcy.During that time, Mr.Darcy helps Lidia and helps Bingley be together with Jane. From then on, Elizabeth’s prejudice towards Darcy is changed into true love. Finally they make peace and again, Mr.Darcy makes a proposal to Elizabeth. At last, the lovers finally got married.Having read the book, a question occurred to me that what is the cause of the lovers to be together after such a long time.As far as I am concerned, it is pride and prejudice that is the barrier of their love.In fact, there is barrier like this in our communication in our daily life.We always take something for granted and we have prejudice to the people whom we do not really understand.Meanwhile, we are too proud sometimes and we just refuse to know others well because of our poor pride.Furthermore, we have choice to decide what we want. Some people gets married because the temptation of the materials, like Charlotte, however, some insist on getting married to the person that is really their love, just like Elizabeth.Material comfort makes us happy sometimes, however, it won’t last long. For the things are empty in spirits. We need something that can comfort our spirits not just our bodies.Everyone has his own shortcomings.Elizabeth has prejudice against before she knows the person well, while Mr.Darcy is too proud at first. No one is perfect, but we can overcome those shortcomings as poible as we can, no matter what the result is.The communication with people is not an easy thing and understanding others may be more difficult. However, if we try our best to do it well, throwing away all our pride and prejudice, and be a new person to fight for a good future.

Pride and Prejudice

Jane Austen(1775-1817), the author of Pride and Prejudice, was born in a rural town named Steve Burton. There are six brothers and one sister in her family.Austen did not go to regular school, but gained good family education from her father’s literary books. The Austen love to read popular novels, and the majority are some vulgar pastime-products.Her teenage papers are the imitations of this kind of novel, thus she formed the sarcastic tone in her works. It is well-known that “sentimental novel” and “gothic novel” are full of English literature from the late eighteenth to the early nineteenth century. However, Austen’s works are iconoclastic, which presents the daily life of the middle cla and the countryside that have not been affected by the capitalist industrial revolution. In the book, Mr.Bennet, a small squire, has five unmarried daughters, and Mrs.Bennet is anxiously looking for satisfactory husbands for their daughters. At the very fist, Mr.Bingley appeared in the small town as the Bennets’ neighbor. He is a bachelor who owes large fortune. And almost everyone in the small town wants to marry their own daughter to him, and soon Mr.Bingley fell in love with Jane, Mr.Bennet’s old daughter after a ball.Mr.Bingley’s good friend Darcy took part in the ball, too.He soon drew the attention of many girls because of his handsome feathers and tall figure. But he was so proud that he thought they were not beautiful enough to be his dance partner, including Jane's sister Elizabeth.Darcy told Bingley that the feathers of Elizabeth just can be “tolerated”, and not to the extent of drawing his interest.Out of self-esteem, Elizabeth decided to ignore the arrogant guy.But it was not long before Darcy was attracted by her lovable behavior. So he invited her to dance at another ball, and Elizabeth agreed to dance with him.Darcy gradually changed his view on Elizabeth since then.Bingley’s sister Caroline was always wishing to marry Darcy, but Darcy was very cold to her.So when she found that Darcy was into Elizabeth, she became very angry and determined to obstruct.Though Darcy appreciated Elizabeth, he can’t put up with her mother and sisters vulgar behaviors.Concerning that Jane was not interested in Bingley, Darcy persuaded Bingley not to marry Bingley.Bingley went to London in this case, but Jane still loves him deeply.Mr.Bennet doesn’t have son, according to the law of that time, Mr.Bennet’s property just can be succeeded by men, Bennet’s daughters can only get five thousand pounds as a dowry. So his estate will belong to a distant relative named Collins.Collins looks ordinary, but he is good at fattery.Depending on power he became a priest. He got married with Elizabeth’s good friend Charlotte as soon as Elizabeth refused his propose, which troubled Elizabeth a lot. There is a handsome young officer named Wickham and everybody spoke highly of him.Elizabeth was attracted by him, too.One day, he told Elizabeth that his father is

the manager of the Darcy, and Darcy’s father suggested that Darcy give Wickham a fortune in his will, so he can be a clergy decently. However, Darcy had the property all to himself. After listening to Wickham, Elizabeth became more disgusted to Darcy.Elizabeth met Darcy’s aunt Catherine when she was visiting the Collins couple and was invited to Catherine’s home. There Elizabeth came acro Darcy who came there to celebrate Easter.Darcy can’t restrain his love for Elizabeth and proposed to her, but his attitude was still so arrogant, adding to Elizabeth’s serious prejudice to him before, she turned out him absolutely. This blow made Darcy realize the consequence of his pride. He left her sadly, and before leaving he wrote her a long letter of some explanation: he admitted that Bingley’s leaving was his fault, because he was unsatisfied with Mrs.Bennet and mi Bennet(not including Jane and Elizabeth), and he also thought that Jane was not really interested in Bingley. However, What Wickham said are all lies.In fact, Wickham spent all the money Darcy gave to him and tried to seduce Darcy's sister George Anna. After read the letter, Elizabeth was very regret not only for her mother and sisters’ behaviors but also for her blame of Darcy. The next summer, Elizabeth came to Darcy’s manor with her aunt and uncle. When she saw Darcy, she felt greatly surprised at his changing. She found that he is polite and respectable, the prejudice against Darcy had gradually disappeared.Later she got the information that Lydia, and Sir Wickham had got away from home, she felt worried and humiliated.Darcy paid back the money for Wickham without saying a word to Elizabeth, and helped them get married. From then on, Elizabeth dumped all the prejudice and fell in love with Darcy with all her heart.Pride and Prejudice is the most enduringly popular novel written by Jane Austen. It talks about trivial matters of love, marriage and family life between country squires and fair ladies in Britain in the 18th century. The plot is very simple. That is how the young ladies choose their husbands.I appreciate Elizabeth Bennet, who flatly rejectedCollins’ proposal, who is the heir of her father’s property and manor, and refused the first proposal from the extremely wealthy noblemanDarcy. All the facts and plots make it clear that Elizabeth seeks no fame nor fortune, but self-important and high mental outlook.Love is really a wonderful thing;if you pursue a true love you can never give up or submit to anything, stick to your principle and don’t be afraid of misunderstanding.I believe one day happine will come true.
