Pride and Prejudice

Introduction:

As we all know , Pride and Prejudice is one of Jane Ausen’s representative works. This book is considered as the treasure of the world liberary and is one of the world’s ten great claics. The author, Jane Austen, was a British novelist who was born in a small country town. Her father was a local vicar.Austin didn't go to regular schools, but she read many literary works at her parents' guidance. She started writing about the age of 20, and published six novels.Jane was unmarried all her life. For living in a small country town, contacting the medium and small landlords, pastor as well as their quiet and comfortable living environment, there were no significant social contradictions in her works. She described a truthful picture of her world, especially the marriage and love between gentleman and ladies by her meticulous feminine observation. The style of her works is humorous and rich in comic conflicts, so many readers love them. From the late eighteenth to the nineteenth century, vulgar and boring sentimental novels and gothic novels were full in British literary. But Jane’s novel iconoclastic showed mid-cla of daily life and pastoral scenery in British countryside at that time which had not been capitalist industrial revolution impacted,.Although the breadth and depth of the reflection was limited, it played good effect to change the vulgar atmosphere in novels.Summary:

Why is it called pride and prejudice? Elizabeth and Darcy’s story can explain.Darcy loved Elizabeth at first sight at the ball. But the arrogant character caused by the growing environment stopped his initiatively close to Elizabeth.Elizabeth as anyone else believed he is haughty and stubborn. The more Darcy loved Elizabeth, the more he would not shown on the surface instead of making apathy. He thought if Elizabeth would be proud after knowing he loved her, so his character of pride stopped this happening.Elizabeth prejudiced against Darcy deeper and deeper. In her eyes, he even became a sinister, hypocritical people. As Darcy more loved Elizabeth, he finally was unable to restrain to show his love to Elizabeth. He certainly thought Elizabeth would accept, but he didn't know how about his image in Elizabeth’s eyes.So he was surprised when Elizabeth refused him.His arrogance had suffered

a blow. But from then on, they began to candid exchange, then misunderstandings gradually eliminated.Later, inadvertently knowing that Darcy properly handled her sister Lydia and Wick ham’s elopement, Elizabeth’s attitude changed.Darcy was not arrogant as others thought. After Elizabeth’s rejection,he began to reflect on the self-examination and treated people with more populist. Finally, regardle of his aunt’s strong objection and concept of family, Darcy proposed to Elizabeth again.Elizabeth willingly consented. She began to appear her lively side to Darcy.Comments:

In this great book , the author amply demonstrates her point love and marriage. But they have great background. At that time , according to the social conditions in Britain , a good marriage for a young woman was critical. This phenomenon was closely aociated with the British society and the status of women in the society. In the 19th century , women were not well respected compared with the ones in the present society. There was no equality between woman and man.Women were considered to be inferior to men in terms of intelligence and capacity. The central life of women was force d to be staying at home , their roles were to deal with the family affairs , such as taking care of the children and serving for the husband.Pride and prejudice are our common weakne and shortcomings.Every person is easy to be d riven by his own subjective impreion. So it can comment easily to other people under incorrectne, then it will cause misunderstandings between each..A person’s first impreion can affect many things. Not he must change, but you should more deeply know about him, then you will have more objective opinion, just the heroine's opinion of darcy in the novel changed because off knowing the people in the world no longer have pr id e and prejudice these two bad behavior customs, this world will more harmonious and friendly. As far as I considered, people can’t divide people by rich and poor.Everyone is equal on every aspect such as character and knowledge. No one can be arrogant because of wealthine or high status, and also can't be self-abased with economic poverty. This truth relating to our daily l we should not be proud or produce arrogance mood when we make a few achievements,.Learning is endle. We should know that there must be many people clever than ourselves. We must think out a way to study better than others. The vanity is caused by

prejudice in the text. One cannot distinguish good and bad just because the beautiful and ugly appearance.Elizabeth hated Darcy because of Darcy's arrogance generating by wealth and Wacke r 's rumors.A person’s first impreion can affect many things. Not he must change, but you should more deeply know about him, then you will have more objective opinion, just be the heroine's opinion of Darcy in changed because of knowing.the people in the world no longer have pride and prejudice these two bad behavior customs, this world will more harmonious and friendly. After finishing reading this novel , I learned a lot of it.First , we can not have prejudice against someone blindly. To understand a people , you can not only through other’s expreion about him , you must perceive reality by yourself.Second , it’s wrong to get married for the property , money and position , true love is beyond such factors. The last aspect , when we realize the mistake we make , we must acknowledge is bravely and immediately , then make it for the better.

第2篇:傲慢与偏见英文读后感

My first reaction to this book is that it is based on much more on social hierarchy than I have imagined it to be.The first sentence in this book is impreive. It reads: “It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in poeion of a large fortune must be in need of a wife”.It also hides such mattes: a single woman must be in want of a husband, especially a wealthy one.I think the undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but poeion. So there is no difficulty to explain why Mr.Bennet eagerly wants to marry off her daughters to wealthy husbands. At that time in Britain, Only the eldest son had the privilege of inheriting his father’s poeions.Younger sons and daughters who are used to luxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in poeion of a large fortune to continue their comfortable lives. Thus, we can see that getting married is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without many poeions.Jane Austen told us that money and poeion determined everything, including marriage and love in her century. In “Pride and Prejudice”, the sister of Mr.Bingley strongly opposed his plan of marrying Jane because the Bennets don’t have many poeions and their social positions are much lower than them. From this, we can see there are a lot of obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry a wealthy husband. There is a strong cla-consciousne in society at that time. This cla-consciousne also appears in Darcy’s proposal of marriage to Elizabeth.“He spoke well, but there were feelings besides those of the heart to be detailed, and he was not more eloquent on the subject of tenderne than of pride. His sense of her inferiority-of its being a degradation-of the family obstacles which judgment had always opposed to inclination, were dwelt on with a warmth which seemed due to the consequence he was wounding, but was very unlikely to recommend his suit.” As the above quote makes clear, he spends more time emphasizing her lower rank and unsuitability for marriage to him than he does complimenting her or pledging his love.Darcy’s arrogance and the sense of the superiority prefigure the failure of the

proposal. But, at the end of the story, Darcy and Bingley conquer the prejudice of social

hierarchy and find the true love.In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in some people’s mind.A

lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’s marriages.Education background, poeions, jobs remains the main reason that may influence one’s marriage.Marry

for money is still a big problem in our society. But I can’t help asking: if the rich

marry the rich, the poor marry the poor, how can the society improve?

第3篇:傲慢与偏见英文读后感

The main story of the film happens between Elizabeth Bennet and Darcy.Although, it seems that, they haven’t attracted anyone’s eyes.I mean that nobody has thought that love will exist between they two.Because almost everyone has heart of the complaint from their

mouths about the other. So it is not surprise to see the father become so amazed when Lizzy says that she loves Darcy. But what’s the reason? What has stopped them from getting together at first? It’s price and prejudice. We all know that at the first ball, when Lizzy asked Mr Darcy to have a dance. He refused. He didn’t think that anyone at the village can deserve him. After this, Lizzy promised not to pay attention to him any more because of his pride. There are another two things that make the impreion of the hero worse on the herion. One is that she thinks it’s him he that had separated her sister and her lover. The second is that she heard of something bad ,fabricated by Wickham who has antinomies with Darcy. These make the feeling of prejudice stronger and stronger. At last, when everything comes to light Lizzy regretted. She found that she had misunderstood him.And darcy has although changed. Not proud at all.He made an offer of marriage to her again and was accepted. No pride and no prejudice between each other.Pride and Prejudice as a love story, this book is an illustration of the society in Britain in the 18th century. She perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters. The characters have their own

personalities.Mrs.Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters.Mr.Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr.Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior.Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different.Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others.Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion.Mary likes reading claic books.(Actually she is a pedant.)Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia.Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. The first sentence in this book is impreive. It

reads: “It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried

man in poeion of a large fortune must be in need of a wife”.The undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriageis

not emotion but poeion.Just like now.People always think that Austen was an expert at telling love

stories. In fact, the marriage in her book is not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I know the truth is that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.I couldn’t forget how eager Mrs.Bennet wants to marry off her daughters. If you want to know why she is so crazy about these things, I must mention the situation in Britain at that time.Only the eldest son had the privilege of inheriting his father’s poeions.Younger sons and daughters who are used to luxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in poeion of a large fortune to continue their comfortable lives. From this, we can see there are a lot of obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry

a wealthy husband. The society, the relatives would not allow them to get married. In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in some people’s mind.A lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’s marriages.poeions, jobs remains the main reason that may influence one’s marriage.Marry for money is still a big problem in our society. We can’t help thinking: can money determine everything?Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems.Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote “Pride and Prejudice”, her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics.I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and claic.Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time. Here, I want to remind you is I feel very have lasting appeal is "pride

and prejudice" this seemingly might hinder interpersonal "twin

brother"-of course is man's pride and prejudice, why not woman

woman's arrogance and prejudice man? On a simple love from the

perspective: isn't the "twin brother" let two hero love more perfect.Without these seemingly hinders perfect thing--actually make perfect thing, if they start light so hard heart, let a person relaxed pine walk together, and that this story also will no longer let person hard heart, not to let people cherish this hard-won diolve.

第4篇:《傲慢与偏见》英文读后感

The impreion of Pride and Prejudice

The book《 Pride and Prejudice》 iswrittenby Jane Austen , a famous English writer.I still remember the first sentence in this

book.It reads :"It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in poeion of a large fortune must in need of a wife." The undertone is very clear : the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but poeion.Love seems to be a perpetual theme all the time. And the main story in the book Pride and Prejudice is not a exception. The writer tells us her views and attitudes about love and marriage in this book. The novel mainly tells us a love story between Elizabath and Mr.Darcy.It is at a ball that Elizabeth meets Mr.Darcy for the first time and his pride and supercilious behaviors has left Elizabeth a terrible impreion. This is the reason why Elizabeth's prejudice towards him begins.Besides this

reason ,there are two other incidents strengthens Elizabeth's prejudice. The first is that Wickham

speaks ill of Mr.Darcy, which makes Elizabeth thinks him is unworthy to making acquaince of.The second is that Elizabeth regards Darcy is the person who

separates her sister Jane and Mr.Bingley.But with the plots developing ,Darcy has changed himself and become no longer pride ,he also helps Jane and Bingley's reunion. All these factor change

Elizabeth's attitude towards Darcy.Eventually , Elizabeth and Darcy become a couple and lead a happy life from then on.After reading this novel, I realize the

author—Jane Austen’s attitudes and viewstowards love and marriage: is unpractical to get married just for property, wealth and social status while would it be without caring about these elements.Marriage should be based on a real love and it is not a game! You can not just enjoy it without prudent

considerations. There is a gap which is called pride and prejudice between Elizabeth and Darcy , for they poe different society status and amount of property. But the ending which the author arranges that Elizabeth and Darcy break all the obstacles and

become a love couple suggests that true do exist no matter how different the background ,the status is.And I think this book will arouse people’s awarene of the importance of true love in a marriage.

Some Thoughts of Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice, in my memory, is the first foreign novel I have seen.It leads me to read more foreign works, broaden my vision, deepen my recognition and lets me have a new

understanding of love and marriage.Jane Austin, the “Most Perfect Female Artist”, the author of the Pride and Prejudice, with her female's unique meticulous observation, represented a truthful picture of their little world around themselves, especially the marriage and the love storm between the gentleman and the lady. The style of her work is easy, humorous, and imbued with comic conflict. Thus, her works are popular with readers all around the world.Pride and Prejudice is a claic one of those."Pride and Prejudice" is one of the most famous masterpieces written by Jane Austin, which was first published in January 1813.Jan Fergus calls it "her most popular novel, both with the public and with her family and friends".It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature. In 2003, the BBC conducted the largest ever poll for the "UK's Best-Loved Book" in which Pride and Prejudice came second, behind The Lord of the Rings. What’s more, looking at Jane Austin’s novels, we find that irony is the key stone which supports her art building. In Pride and Prejudice, I think, irony is one of the most fascinating characteristics appealing to readers.Meanwhile, in the history of English literature, it was the one which comprehensively discued the situation and problems of the women status, claiming that women independent personality, equal right, and putting up that the female consciousne and thoughts is progreing with the developmentof the society for the first time. The great work not only attracted a large number of readers at that time, but also has a great many fans now because it providesthe readers with unique artistic taste of relaxation and comedy by using the irony and her witty humor, and retains a fascination for modern readers, though the story is set at the turn of the 19th century. In my opinion, the plot of the novel is driven by the particular situation of the Bennet family that Mr and Mrs Bennet have no sons and have only five daughters, which worries Mrs Bennet that she and her daughters have to leave home and have no income if Mr Bennet dies accidently. The character in this work imprees me deeply is its female leading role, Elizabeth Bennet, later Elizabeth Darcy.Elizabeth is the second of five daughters of her father, a country gentleman, living near the fictional town of Meryton in Hertfordshire, near London. She is intelligent, lively, attractive, and witty. Her bravery and intelligence leads her to dare to challenge the secular, dare to pursue her love, and dare to refuse the person who offends her although that person is so good.As we all know that nobody is perfect, Eliza has a tendency to judge someone on first impreion and perhaps would be a little selective of the evidence upon which she bases her judgments. The sentences I like most are “Marriage should not be driven by thoughts of money” and “Only deep love will persuade me to marry”, a dialogue between her sister Jane and Elizabeth.I think it is not only her vision of love, but also the author’s.Moreover, Jane portrays four different types of love and marriage with a witty and humorous language in the work.Among them, the marriage between Elizabeth the hoste and Darcy the host is the most succeful one. It’s also the perfect pattern of love and marriage that Jane Austen had dreamed of in her entire life.In her eyes, according to what I understand, a happy marriage should be combined with material, morality, sense and sensibility. All of them constitute perfect love and marriage. This perspective until today has high value.Synchronizing with the development of society, more and more love is just established in money and lust, not the pure love. This book shows the author Jane Austin’s pure mind. Here, I sincerely recommend you to read this book. The book is really giving us a baptism of the soul and lets us catch a glimpse of the real and pure love and marriage.

第6篇:《傲慢与偏见》英文读后感

Many people simply regard pride and prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters. The characters have their own personalities.Mrs.Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters.Mr.Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr.Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior.Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different.Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others.Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion.Mary likes reading claic books.(Actually she is a pedant.)Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia.Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century.

The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can find these from the very beginning of this book.

The first sentence in this book is impreive. It reads: “It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in poeion of a large fortune must be in need of a wife”.The undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but poeion.

people always think that Austen was an expert at telling love stories. In fact, the marriage in her book is not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I know the truth is that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.

I couldn’t forget how eager Mrs.Bennet wants to marry off her daughters.

The society, the relatives would not allow them to get married.

In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in some people’s mind.A lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’s marriages.Education background, poeions, jobs remains the main reason that may influence one’s marriage.Marry for money is still a big problem in our society. We can’t help thinking: can money determine everything?

Austen left this problem for us to think.

第7篇:《傲慢与偏见》英文读后感

The abbreviation of the novel. This is a story happening in a Bennet.Mr.Bennet, a countryside gentleman in England, had no sons but five girls.According to the law, the girls in Bennet’s could not inherit their father’s fortune but could only get 5,000 pounds as dowry and the poeion was to be inherited by Mr.Bennet’s nephew, Collins,square-toes and good at flattering flattery. So, how to help them marry a rich gentleman was the top agenda to Mrs.Bennet.And when Collins wanted to propose one of the girls in Bennet’ and he chose Elizabeth, for the eldest but most beautiful girl, Jane, was not available.Elizabeth refused him and he proposed her close friend, Charlotte.Although Charlotte did not like Collins, she married him for she was already 27.As for Jane, she met a handsome young man with a plenty of money named Mr.Bingley.They felt in love at first sight at a ball.Mr.Bingley showed great paion on Jane, while Jane did not though she did love him.Mr.Darcy, a very good friend of Mr.Bingley, was also a wealthy and attracted young man.At that ball,at first Mr.Darcy was very pride and prejudice to Elizabeth, but after dancing with her ,he felt in love with her.But Elizabeth did not like him because of his air.And Elizabeth treated Mr.Darcy worse because he persuaded Mr.Bingley to give up her sister, Jane.So at the first time when Mr.Darcy proposed, she refused.Lydia, Elizabeth another sister, was too young and innocent to tell a delusion and ran away with a young and handsome military officer,Wickham, who actually was a gambling addicts and had a numerous debt. When Mr.Darcy paid Wickham a lot of money to get Lydia a complete marriage, and managed to make Jane and Mr.Bingley get together, Elizabeth did not misunderstand him anymore and accepted his second proposal.Appreciation

‘It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in poeion of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.’ The first sentence in the novel and sets the ground and tone for the novel.During that time some people were timeservers and flatters ,hypocritical and stupid, like Mr.s Bennet, while some were smart and independent, like Elizabeth. And this conflict makes the whole story full of humorousne and irony, and the readers think more beyond the lines, making the author outstanding at her age.Apart from that, Jane Austin’s concept of marriage, which we can refer from the lines, is totally different from the convention and has been attracted by the readers over the years.I think, there are two points in her new concept. The first one is that a marriage does need a monetary foundation but more importantly should be built on true love and self esteem. At that time a woman was supposed to marry a rich man although she did not like that man.So that’s why Mrs.Bennet asked Elizabeth to marry Collins. But Elizabeth refused for she did not like him. However, her friend Charlotte chose to married him because

Charlotte was too old to care about too much although Charlotte was also an acknowledged lady and could not regardle the convention. Therefore,in the author’s eyes, their marriage would not last for long because it was not built on love. So, the marriage, like Elizabeth and Mr.Darcy’s, should be encouraged, and we should be negative about marriage, only built on money, like Collins and Charlotte’s, Lydia and Wickham’s.The second is that women and men should be equal. From Elizabeth turning down Collins and Mr.Darcy,we can see that, in author’s mind, a marriage should not be decided by the man but both ,and women are not the acceories of men’s but should be independent, having their own feelings, voice and decisions. And this can reflect some ideas about Jane Austin’s feminism, which also has made her distinguish for years.I think this is also suitable for today.Women, having more power than ever, should be more independent not only in marriage but also in the society.
